Onjuku御宿 is a fishing town on the Pacific coast of Chiba prefecture, Japan and a popular spot with surfers and holiday beachgoers. For surfing I must say that it is not the ideal spot for good waves but the beach will charm you.The surrounding landscapes are wonderful, nice vegetation and intricate rock formations.
The beach is also a hot spot for young people form Tokyo which means great fun on the beach. Even if Onjuku is really popular for Japanese in the region, there is not a lot of foreign tourist. Being a gaijin in Onjuku will provide you with a strange feeling of uniqueness. For me this place is like my little secret paradise, you can enjoy nice company on a beautiful white beach. Staying in Onjuku is also really cheap, there is a multitude of ryokan which are traditional Japanese inn and many little hotel. At night you can enjoy a drink at the local bar Zero, the night life in terms of clubs bar is still really limited but you will surely find a nice party somewhere along the beach.
If you are visiting Japan and you have time to spare while around the Tokyo area, try to spend a weekend near the beach in Onjuku.
